Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, supposes that the Parliament will reject the Resolution on the Elections of Kyiv Mayor and Kyiv City Council on October 31, 2010

Asked at the press-conference in Chernihiv, V. Lytvyn expressed the opinion that there would not be enough votes to adopt a relevant decision. "I am convinced that the issue would be included on the agenda, though no one would vote for it", he added.

The Head of the Parliament mentioned that from the political point of view, initiators of these elections are right. "I marked motivation of such attempts and I am convinced that from this political point of view, they are right and act due to the exact logic", he added.

According to V. Lytvyn, the opponents of these elections in the capital of Ukraine protect their position by the fact that according to the judgement of the Constitutional Court, the term of the authorities of the local councils elected in the result of the early elections comprises 5 years and that of city mayors 4 years.

The Head of the Parliament also emphasised that discussion of the possible resignation of L. Chernovetskii to occupy a new office of the acting mayor were useless and incorrect.
